At The Flanders/Belgium Pavilion you can get information about the Flemish leading edge water knowledge and technologies, and R&D&I or demonstration projects for sustainable water supply to all stakeholders within a robust water system (Flemish Government Vision 2050):

Integrated Water Management Systems

Aerobic and Anaerobic Water Treatment

Drinking Water Production

Water reuse

Nutrient Removal

Effluent Polishing

Water (pollution) monitoring system

Groundwater processing on site

Recycling municipal waste water

Rainwater harvesting

Water loop closure

Ecosystem Services

The Pavilion also gives you the chance to meet research institutes  active  in  water  research,  water end users (chemistry,  food,  textile,  agriculture,  steel),  drinking water  companies,  water  utilities  and  governmental organizations. The focus is on integrated water systems, water reuse, water loop closure, water pollution monitoring, effluent polishing and nutrient removal.

The Pavilion is powered by Flanders Knowledge Center Water (Vlakwa/VITO), AquaFlanders and De Watergroep:

Providing Flanders with sufficient water of good quality at a reasonable price is a major challenge. The key to success is an cooperation between enterprises, researchers and government. The Flanders Knowledge Center Water (Vlakwa) is the driving force.

At those areas in the market where water problems constitutes a threat to the economy, Vlakwa initiates, coordinates and facilitates international research, development and innovation projects; Partner search and Knowledge transfer.

Flanders Knowledge Center Water is an independent division within VITO, a leading European independent research and technology organisation in the areas of cleantech and sustainable development, elaborating solutions for the large societal challenges of today.

AquaFlanders is the voice of all Flemish companies that are responsible for drinking water and sewer management. We promote the common interests of our members to the local, regional, federal and European government and stakeholders and support them with a package of services. AquaFlanders encourages a sustainable management and use of water.

De Watergroep is the largest water company in Flanders (Belgium). We are an autonomous Flemish water company offering products and services for the complete water chain. We deliver drinking water to 3 million customers in 175 towns via a network of 32,500 kilometres of pipelines. Our total water production amounted to 126 million m³ of water in 2015. In addition, we apply a sustainable recycling approach for an economically and ecologically sound management of all links in the water chain.

VITO is a leading European independent research and technology organization in the areas of cleantech and sustainable development. The Water Management and Technology Department offers integrated solutions for challenges related to water. We support industry, public authorities and cities to setup demonstration projects and living labs to evaluate sustainable water management concepts.
